Zulum Distributes Food, Agricultural Inputs To 35,000 Residents
Waiting for the palliatives
Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State, has overseen the distribution of food and agricultural inputs to over 35,000 male heads of households in the state’s Monguno Local Government Area.
Each of the 35,000 beneficiaries received one bag containing 25kg of rice and cowpeas to help them cultivate their farmlands.
Zulum revealed that the rice package was one of 20 trucks donated by the federal government to the state to help people cope with the high cost of food.
He stated, “We are in Monguno town primarily for two purposes: first, to distribute food items provided to the Borno State government by the federal government. We were given 20 trucks of rice and distributed them all to the community this morning.
“In addition to this, we have distributed seeds, as most of them do not have the means to purchase farm inputs, and we have distributed cowpeas to all able heads of households,” Zulum stated.
“I also want to inform you that the federal government has provided the state government with 90 trucks of fertiliser free of charge to distribute to our farmers,” Zulum stated.
The governor, who was in Monguno on Sunday, thanked the federal government for assisting the people of his state. He stated: “On behalf of the people of Borno State, I would like to thank the federal government for this commendable gesture.”
During his Sunday visit, he distributed more than N450 million to 45,000 widows and vulnerable women in Monguno.
Governor Zulum stated, “We have also distributed N10,000 in cash support and a wrapper to each of the more than 45,000 widows and vulnerable women in Monguno town.”
According to the Governor, the distribution of palliatives by his administration was not intended to create dependency, but rather to assist vulnerable families who have lost their sources of income due to the Boko Haram crisis in Borno State.
