Obi To Youths: With You, Nigeria Has A Brighter Future
Despite the current challenges that Nigeria is facing in terms of economic difficulties, restiveness, spiralling insecurity, unemployment, infrastructure decay, and a generally poor standard of living, the future looks bright for the country, given the dream and focus of the next generation of youths.
On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, gave these assurances to students at Corona School in Gbagada, Lagos. Obi, the guest speaker at the Class 6 graduation ceremony for the 2023/2024 session, urged the graduates to believe in their dreams and work to change the country’s future.
He charged them with maintaining the high standard of education imparted to them during their studies.
Obi, who was impressed by the graduates’ ambitions, said, “I am confident that with your aspirations, you will change the country.”
He praised the graduates for believing in themselves, saying, “That is a picture of a better Nigeria.
“Your future will be brighter and more exciting”. Obi stated that the current problems affecting the country are not insurmountable.
He tasked the graduating students with protecting the school’s image wherever they went.
“In you, I see future leaders, great patriots, brilliant scholars, successful statesmen, and patriotic Nigerians who will take the country to the next level,” he told them.
The former governor was reacting to an address by the graduating class’s Head Boy, Toluwanimi Adams, who pledged on behalf of his colleagues to uphold the principles of perseverance, confidence, and hard work that they were taught at Corona School.
Adams, who had previously invited Obi to their family home, promised that he and his graduating class would not let the school down as they progressed in life.
In a similar vein, Michelle Adeleke, the Head Girl, pledged to make the Corona School proud in their future endeavours.
Earlier in her address, the Head of the School, Mrs Henrietta Eguagie, urged the graduates to live by the values of hard work and discipline instilled in them at school, assuring them of reaching enviable heights in their lives.
The students performed songs, dramas, and other activities during the graduation ceremony.
