Pius Anyim, Former Senate President, Reportedly Joins APC
Chief Pius Anyim, a former President of the Nigerian Senate, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
According to reports monitored by THE NEWSHAUS, Anyim officially joined the ruling party on Saturday at Pa Oruta Ngele Township in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, during the state’s final campaign rally ahead of local elections.
During the final rally, Anyim urged all Ebonyi people to continue supporting President Bola Ahamed Tinubu and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Anyim, a founding member of the PDP, stated, “Today is remarkable in the government of Ebonyi State. Today, we are back together. It is very sad, but it is not about me, but about the people of Ebonyi State. We consulted and made decisions prior to this defection.
“We urge all Ebonyi people to support Mr. President as he leads the country through these trying times.
“The people of Ebonyi have resolved to support the government of Mr. President and Minister of Works in its efforts to strengthen Bola Tinubu’s administration. We encourage all Nigerians to rally behind Mr. President.”
The former SGF was not the only one to join the APC. Mr Edwin Nkwegu, a Labour Party Chieftain, was among those who defected to the ruling party.
Anyim served as SGF under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He was elected senator from Ebonyi by the PDP in 1999 and became Senate President in 2000.
