Obi, Disheartened, Mourns With Bereaved Families Of Collapsed School Building
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, said the tragic collapse of a school building in Jos, Plateau State, was disheartening.
According to Yunusa Tanko, POMR Spokesperson, Obi, who was writing on his X handle over the weekend, expressed regret for the deaths and injuries caused by the tragic incident.
“I am heartbroken by reports of the tragic collapse of a school building in Busa Buji village, Jos, Plateau State, today, which killed at least 16 of our children and trapped many others, including teachers, beneath the rubble.
“The incident occurred while school was in session and students were writing their exams.
“I can only imagine the anguish of these young children who witnessed such a tragic event, as well as their parents, who are undoubtedly concerned about their children’s safety.”
“I understand that rescue operations have begun in full swing. I thank various organisations, including the FRSC, NEMA, Red Cross, Army, Police, and many other individuals, for their assistance in the safe rescue of our children and teachers.
“I sympathise with the Plateau State government and people, the school’s administration, faculty, and students, and the families of all those affected. I do, however, urge the government to conduct thorough investigations into this tragic incident to determine the root cause and help prevent similar incidents in the future.
“My sincere prayers are with the remaining trapped children and teachers for their safe rescue.
“May God grant eternal rest to the dead, give their families the fortitude to bear the painful loss, and grant quick recovery to the injured.”
