Nigeria’s First Children’s Dedicated TV Debuts In Lagos With A Nod From NBC
In a historic move, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has granted a licence to Idowu Sowunmi, a former Editorial Member of THISDAY Newspapers, to operate Nigeria’s first children’s television station.
The new station, which will be located in Lagos State, is expected to meet the entertainment and educational needs of the country’s ever-increasing population of young people. Cartoons, educational shows, and live-action series will be among the locally and internationally-produced content on offer.
Sowunmi stated that his company, Three Tees Entertainment Limited, is committed to providing high-quality, age-appropriate content that promotes learning, creativity, and positive values.
This station’s launch will be a watershed moment in Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape, with far-reaching consequences for the lives of children throughout the country.
Speaking further, Sowunmi, who is the company’s Chairman/Chief Promoter, said: “We are honoured at Three Tees Entertainment Limited to pioneering this initiative.”
According to him, “We are dedicated to creating a platform that inspires, educates, and entertains Nigeria’s future leaders. We’re also coming up with the First Children’s Radio as soon as we secure the necessary approval.
“According to available demographic records, children aged 0 to 14 account for more than 44% of Nigeria’s total population, or approximately 100 million people.
“Our goal is to give this large population a voice, a platform to express themselves, and to contribute meaningfully to overall societal development.”
