Gov. Otti, State Assembly Ex-Speakers Tour Road Construction Sites In Aba, Express Satisfaction
Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, has urged contractors overseeing road projects in Aba, the state’s thriving economic hub, to speed up their progress and complete their work before the rainy season begins.
Otti addressing the crowd
Governor Otti issued this instruction on Friday while inspecting numerous road construction sites in Aba and surrounding areas.
According to Kazie Uko, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, the Governor was accompanied on the tour of the project sites by former Speakers of the Abia State House of Assembly, who paid him a visit under the auspices of the Abia State Speakers Conference.
Governor Otti addressed crowds of excited residents who besieged him at each of his stops, describing the roads as strategic and economic in nature, and urging contractors to move faster and complete them before the rains arrive.
He expressed confidence in the contractors’ ability to deliver the roads as planned and praised them for their efforts thus far. He also thanked the residents and business owners who live and work in the area for their assistance and cooperation with the contractors.
“The contractors are trying, but I want them to do more because I do not want the rains to come here. They are capable, and I am confident that they will succeed.
“I would like to thank you for supporting the contractors and giving them your full cooperation. I would also like to thank you for putting up with all of the inconveniences to ensure that this road is built to the highest standards,” the Governor said, adding that the purpose of the inspection was to ensure that the contractors followed the specifications and to assess the level of work completed thus far.
Speaking on behalf of the former Speakers, Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka, who was Abia State Assembly Speaker during former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s administration (1999-2007), stated that, despite coming from different political parties, the former Speakers are pleased with Governor Otti’s giant strides in only nine months in office.
Ohajuruka stated that he and his colleagues believe that politics has ended and that it is now time for governance, adding that one does not have to be a member of the Governor’s political party to appreciate his good work. The group was pleased with the quality of work at the various locations visited.
It is worth noting that all previous Speakers of the State Assembly were members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Otti was accompanied on the road inspection tour by Rt. Hons Arua Arusi, Agwu U. Agwu, Christopher Enweremadu, Ude Okochukwu, Martins Azubuike, and Chikwendu Kalu from the Conference of Former Speakers of the Abia State House of Assembly.
The roads inspected were Pepples Road, Ndoki Road, Old Court Road, and Ehi Road. Others include Port Harcourt Road, Omuma Road, Industrial Road, Umuodu Avenue, and University Road in Aba, as well as Mgbedeala-Omoba Road in Isialangwa South LGA.
