Peter Obi, the main opposition Voice and Labour Party Presidential candidate in last year’s general election, has advised state governors on how to use the N30 billion allocated to each of the 36 state governors to help alleviate the country’s hardship.

The massive sum announced recently by Senate President Godswill Akpabio was intended to assist governors in addressing national unrest caused by the country’s dire economic situation.

Obi wrote on his X handle, “Recently, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, announced that a staggering financial support of N1.1 trillion, amounting to N30 billion each, was doled out to the State Governors to help alleviate the country’s current hardship.

“While the Federal Government should be commended for providing such significant assistance, given the difficult times people are experiencing, it is critical, in the interest of good governance and transparency, that the details of such assistance be explained further, so that the public, the masses for whom the assistance is intended, can follow through and ensure that it is used appropriately for the people’s benefit.

“While we wait for such details, I urge everyone to collaborate to ensure that resources are genuinely and transparently invested in productive ventures that will alleviate current hardships and contribute to the country’s future growth.

“We must stop allocating scarce and borrowed resources to immediate problems and consumption, and instead, through an articulated plan, invest aggressively in production in a clear, visible, and transparent manner, allowing people to see the long-term benefits.

“Now more than ever, our country requires a clear shift from consumption to production by prioritising and investing in human development, which will provide a reliable and long-term solution to many of our current problems and set us on a path of developmental progress. This is the New Nigeria we desire.
