PDP Chieftain Bombs Sylva As Ex-Minister Vents Anger At Tinubu
Chief Timipre Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has accused President Bola Tinubu of mismanaging Nigeria’s economy.
He also blamed the current economic crisis on Tinubu’s “poorly assembled cabinet riddled with scandals.”
According to him, Tinubu’s economic policies are slowly tearing the country apart, resulting in high inflation and unprecedented poverty.
“Nigerians are now in a frying pan, and our only hope is that we are not dumbed down in the inferno,” Sylva said in a statement issued by one of his spokespeople, Dr. John Idumange.
Sylva insisted that Tinubu’s policies were anti-people and incapable of generating the necessary growth and development while also alleviating hunger and poverty.
But reacting to the development, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Tombra Williams, said Sylva’s outburst was shocking, explaining that his level of frustration stemmed from his recent defeat in the Bayelsa governorship election.
Williams claimed that Sylva’s latest media war is intended to discredit Tinubu due to the president’s refusal to use federal power to achieve his governorship ambition.
The PDP chieftain claimed that the tirade was intended to discredit the Tinubu administration, even though the current challenges confronting the country were created by the previous administration, in which Sylva played a key role.
He stated that as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Sylva failed to put the nation’s refinery to work, as the current government is doing, among other anomalies during his four-year tenure.
Williams added that the passage of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which Sylva touts as one of his accomplishments, fell short of the expectations of Niger Delta residents, particularly the percentage allocated to host communities.
The PDP chieftain insisted that Sylva lacks moral justification to criticise Tinubu’s administration because it inherited an almost comatose economy.
Williams stated, “It is concerning to see statements attributed to the spokesperson of Chief Timipre Sylva accusing the Bola Tinubu administration of being to blame for our current economic woes. It is not only concerning but also reckless on their part.
“It is surprising Sylva forgot he was a part of Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, which set us back more than 20 years. As Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, he failed to meet expectations, which contributed to his poor performance in the last governorship election.
“Let Sylva be sorry that his four years in office did not bring the expected benefits to the people of the Niger Delta. If anyone should criticise Tinubu, it is not him.”
