Nigeria’s Greatest Election Fraud Victims: Obi, Edeoga – LP
The national chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, has identified two primary victims of the flawed electoral act: Peter Obi, the party’s nominee for president in the 2023 general election, and Chijioke Edeoga, the candidate for governor of Enugu state.
The announcement was made in a press release by Obiora Ifoh, national publicity secretary for the Labour Party. The chairman of the party also appointed Chijioke Edeoga to the party committee that will work on amending the nation’s election laws.
During a “thank you” visit to the Labour Party’s national headquarters on Wednesday, the candidate for governor of Enugu state described how he ran for office but was disqualified due to interference from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Enugu state government.
Edeoga begged the Party to support electoral act reform, stating that he has not yet come to terms with the final ruling against him despite the clear evidence supporting his victory.
“The most dangerous things that can happen in a democracy are vote rigging and electoral brigandage,” he declared. Voters cast their ballots based on a variety of factors, including prayers, frustrations, and expectations, but as soon as they did, the ballots vanished. Therefore, we ought to take all reasonable steps to preserve the integrity of votes. One’s endorsement of a candidate is indicated by their vote total. It goes beyond just physical action. It has a spiritual component and is more than just a symbolic deed.
Many people have not accepted the Supreme Court’s ruling since it was rendered. Numerous individuals struggle with one form of illness or another. Enugu was placed in mourning following the ruling. My acceptance of it has not happened yet, and it never will. I must come to you, however, to inform you that I did not play, trade, or barter with the ticket you supplied me. I understood that my people had given me their mandate, but I did my best, so it was not my fault. I was here to express my gratitude. I arrived with the message, “I am here to continue the work of national redemption.”
As he appointed Edeoga to the electoral reform committee, LP National Chairman Abure responded, saying, “It is very clear that they robbed us of that election.” The PDP government in Enugu state and INEC officials collaborated on it. Everyone on the planet knows this. We as a party have decided to pursue electoral reforms in Nigeria since last year, even before you mentioned them. And that we will not experience anything similar to what happened to us during the general election.
“Having witnessed the antics between the national assembly and the presidency during the previous electoral reform, we feel that the best course of action is to pursue electoral reform as soon as possible. Furthermore, as I am talking to you, the committee that will provide us with the review’s framework is already being formed. In addition, we determined that the Labour Party would take the lead in these processes rather than just observe.”
According to him, only those who have been harmed by the system are able to seek electoral reforms. “It is evident from my statements that the Labour Party will suffer the most from the general election of 2023. Therefore, we cannot be perceived as abandoning our efforts to defend our votes and pursue electoral reform. And since you are one of the biggest victims of electoral fraud in Nigeria, second only to Peter Obi, you will be in the best position to assist the party and the country as a whole in resolving this crisis,” he stated.
