Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for 2023, has bemoaned the circumstances that forced Nigerians into internally displaced camps during a whistleblower tour of three key locations in the North over the weekend.

The presidential candidate visited the residence of the late Hon. Ghali Na’abba, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to offer condolences. He also shared in the festivities with Abdulrahman Dambazau, the former Chief of Army Staff and Minister of the Interior, whose daughter got married in Kano over the weekend.

According to a statement from his PA Media, Michael Jude Nwolisa, Obi travelled on both trips with his running mate, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmad, as well as a few representatives from the state’s Obidient Movement and Labour Party.
Obi posted on his X handle, stating, “My brother, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, and I travelled to Kano State to attend General Abdulrahman Dambazau’s daughter’s wedding alongside other esteemed Nigerians.
” In addition to serving our beloved country as a Chief of Army Staff twice, General Dambazau was a former Federal Minister of Interiors.

I ask God Almighty to keep the recently married couple safe and happy, to bless them with good health and happiness, and to surround their union with love, joy, peace, and understanding.

Together with my brother, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, I visited Kano State today to offer my condolences to the family of the late Ghali Na’Abba, who passed away not too long ago.

“Na’Abba served our beloved country as Speaker of the House of Representatives before his passing. His family and loved ones are in our thoughts during this trying time.

“May God Almighty pardon his transgressions, grant him endless peace, and give his family, the good people of Kano State, and all of us who are grieving the strength to endure his loss.
Obi claims that following the Kano incident, he visited the beleaguered Plateau town that was attacked on Christmas Day and had the following to say.

“After my two significant events in Kano State today, I visited two internally displaced people’s camps (IDPs) in Plateau State’s Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas as a show of solidarity.

“Over 300 people were injured and over 100 people lost their lives in the tragic attacks that occurred in the area, which led to the creation of the camp.

“I expressed my sympathy to the Plateau State government, its citizens, and the numerous families who lost loved ones to this heinous act—indeed, to every Nigerian experiencing the agony of insecurity. I am deeply sorry for the families who have been impacted. Our country is facing many difficulties right now, but we are not going to give up.

May the All-Powerful God pardon the transgressions of the deceased, grant them eternal life, and give their surviving relatives the strength to cope with their priceless losses. May God bless those injured receiving medical attention in the hospital with a quick recovery.

“I express my gratitude to the Plateau State government for their thoughtful and compassionate assistance to the impacted individuals, as well as to the security agencies for their outstanding work in safeguarding Nigeria, particularly during this trying period, and for their attempts to bring order back to the region.

“I gave N10 million and N5 million, respectively, as a token donation to the two IDPs in the Barkin-Ladi and Bokkos LG Areas.

“The increasing number of people fleeing to various IDP camps around the nation worries me greatly. I have always maintained that if one Nigerian is internally displaced, then all Nigerians are.

“I call on all tiers of government, philanthropic institutions, and well-meaning Nigerians to extend assistance to our fellow citizens who are currently displaced, across the nation, as a result of insecurity. We are determined to recover our country from the criminals and lead it back to prosperity, peace, and development. We will uphold our duty as brothers’ keepers and remain unified in our goal.
