Arabic Day: Zulum Opens ‘ASALLIN’ National Conference In Maiduguri, Honours Governor

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday, declared open the 18th national conference of the Academic Society for Arabic Language and Literature in Nigeria (ASALLIN) which was organized to commemorate the International Arabic Day slated for the 18th of December every year.

The event was held at the International conference hall of Musa Usman Secretariat, Maiduguri.

Zulum, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Arabic language and Islamic scholarship in Nigeria.

He highlighted the rich cultural and historical significance of the Arabic language and its contributions to literature, science, and religious texts.

The governor noted that his administration intends to construct 27 High Islamic Colleges, one in each Local government to promote Arabic education in Borno.

Zulum also launched ASALLIN’s annual journal titled “AL-LISAN JOURNAL OF THE ACADEMIC SOCIETY FOR ARABIC LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE IN NIGERIA where he announced the purchase of 50 copies at N5m.

The conference with the theme: “Arabic Culture In West Africa & The Journey Over Centuries: Achievements And Prospects” aims to explore strategies for sustaining and enhancing the study of Arabic knowledge in Nigerian educational institutions.

Professor Mashood Jimba, President of ASALLIN, expressed her gratitude to Governor Zulum and the organizing committee for their efforts in hosting the conference.

Meanwhile, the Academic Society for Arabic Language and Literature in Nigeria (ASALLIN) has honoured the Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, with an award titled “Faris Lugga Arabiya” which translates as the “Knight of Arabic Language”.

The award according to the organizers was to recognize Zulum’s commitment to promoting the teaching and learning of the Arabic language in Borno State.

The award was presented to the Governor by the Director of the Nigerian Arabic Village, Ngala, Professor Ibrahim Muhammad.
