BREAKING: Why NLC, TUC Suspend Strike
The National Executive Councils of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) stopped the ongoing strike on Wednesday night.
According to the unions, the suspension was prompted by Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.
Our reporter learned that the meeting, which began a few minutes after 7 p.m., lasted about an hour, during which various affiliates and state chapters discussed the conclusion of the meeting between organised labour leaders and Ribadu.
Tommy Etim, the TUC’s National Deputy Vice-President, stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja.
“The NLC and TUC NECs have suspended the strike.” “We did this because we trusted the words of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu,” he stated.
According to sources, the labour leaders met with Ribadu and the Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, on Wednesday afternoon at the NSA Office.
The NSA had announced that the men responsible for Ajaero’s brutalisation had been apprehended.
The organised labour movement is protesting the alleged brutalisation of its National President, Joe Ajaero, as well as the government’s refusal to fully implement some of the agreements struck on October 2, 2023.
