University of Jos Promotes Over 200 Academics To Professorial Cadre, Says VC, Ishaya
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya has announced the fresh promotion of over 200 Academics to the professorial cadre at the institution.
Others who got promoted were 143 senior staff and 399 junior staff in that order.
Professor Ishaya, the 10th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University disclosed this at the Senate Chambers on Thursday while giving an account of his one year in office.
According to him, the Registry of the University and all complexes are currently working round the clock to ensure that both teaching and non-teaching staff who are due for promotion and other forms of career advancement are attended to without delay.
He added that another area of importance to the management of the University is the welfare of the workforce which accounts for why they have taken the welfare of their workers seriously, adding that with the return of normalcy to the university after the ASUU strike action, they would ensure that the University workers are well motivated.
He added that since his management came on board a year ago, they had a clear vision of nurturing a world-class institution for academic excellence and innovation with local, national, and global impact.
He said towards achieving this goal, they have made concerted efforts to create a conducive academic environment that Promotes and strengthens creative and innovative teaching, learning, research and services responsive to local, national and global needs.
“The journey so far has yielded some benefits even amid some obvious challenges ” stressing that they have done their best to overcome the challenges they met on the ground on assumption of duty.
On what the University has gained from TEFUND NRF-funded Project, Professor Ishaya said the University has a total of about N383,948,928,09 of which 4 have been defended successfully and currently awaiting awards.
According to him, despite the strike action by the Unions, some teaching staff and relevant units were gainfully engaged in research activities that yielded positive outcomes for the University, stressing that through their activities, the University was able to attract research grants/funds.
