How Ex-CBN Deputy Governor, Obadiah Mailafia, Died
Former deputy Governor Central bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadial Mailafia collapsed in the house and was rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja where he gave up the ghost, it was revealed to Theleadnews.
At the hospital, doctors battled strenuously to save the life of the Harvard-trained 64-year-old financial guru to no avail. He died in the early hours of today, Sunday, September 19, 2021
His death was confirmed by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Middle Belt Forum, Ms. Ndi Kato, who added that Dr. Mailafia died on Sunday from a yet-to-be-disclosed illness.
He would have been 65 on December 24, 2021.
Dr. Mailafia was a Nigerian development economist, international polymath, central banker, statesman, and the 2019 Nigeria Presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He was a former official of the African Development Bank Group and one-time Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He was also the Chief of Staff of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP), the 79-nation multilateral development institution based in Brussels, Belgium.
Said Mailafia in one of his interviews on television, “We the Middle belt were never conquered by the Fulani Jihad. Our forefathers defeated them at the famed Battle of Ushongo in 1817 in the Benue Valley. Our civilization is no less illustrious than the greatest on the Continent of Africa.
“We’re a rather quiet and shy people unlike all these empty and noise pestilences all over Nigeria. But the fact that we’re humble people doesn’t mean that we can be fools; you underestimate us to your mortal peril. Our ancestors were a proud and warlike race”.
Mailafia was severally a guest to Fulani dominated Department of State Security (DSS) for speaking against the perceived Fulanisation and Islamisation of Nigeria as well as the wanton killings by Fulani militia.
