Customs Again Attack Commissioner’s Entourage In Katsina
TheLeadnews can now authoritatively report that officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have shut at the official vehicle of the Katsina State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Yau Umar Gwajo Gwajo.
Sources revealed that the commissioner was attacked while on his way from his hometown Mai’adua to Katsina.
This attack is coming in barely a month when some officers of the service killed six people and wounded several others in Jibia town.
It would be recalled that Governor Aminu Bello Masari during the visit of a high-powered delegation from the Customs Headquarters over the incident in Jibia, lambasted the service for their impunity in carrying out their duty.
An eyewitness, Basiru Usman, who spoke with our reporter in Katsina, said the customs officers a few kilometers from the state capital attacked the commissioner.
“He was attacked immediately after Muduru village. People within the vicinity started scampering for safety as the shooting began, thinking it was a bandits attack”.
The source added that the vehicle in which the commissioner was riding was not even speeding and wondered why the attack by the customs officers.
Customs officers at the scene of the incident
In a chat with the spokesman of the ministry, Abdurahman Sama’ila, confirmed the incident but didn’t give many details.
“Several shots intended at the commissioner’s vehicle only succeeded in piercing through the Hilux van and another vehicle in the entourage and hitting no one”
“The appropriate authorities have been informed of the development, while we await governments’ next line of action”, he said.
However, efforts to reach the Katsina Customs command spokesman, Danbaba Isa, proved abortive, as calls and SMS sent to him were not responded to.
