Ogun In Strategic Partnership, Allocates 100 Hectares For Naval Base, Dockyard
Prince Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State, announced that the Nigerian Navy has been granted 100 hectares of land in the state to construct a Forward Operating Base (FOB).
Prince Abiodun made this statement during a courtesy visit to Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff, at his Abuja office.
The governor stated that the FOB will be established in the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the state.
He stated that the naval facility on Tongeji Island will protect some strategic investments as well as Nigeria’s sovereignty.
He stated, “Ogun State has always had a long and fruitful relationship with the nation’s security apparatus and has been adjudged to be one of the most secure and peaceful states in Nigeria.”
“As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the relationship with members of the armed forces, I am pleased to announce that Ogun State has allocated 100 hectares of land to the Nigerian Navy for the construction of a Forward Operating Base in Ogun Waterside Local Government, which will include a naval dockyard and a naval base.”
“This base and dockyard will provide security for investments coming into that area, including the proposed OK LNG project spearheaded by NNPC Limited, the proposed Olokola Deep Sea Port, and will safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty at Tongeji Island (part of Ipokia LG, Ogun State) and NNPC Limited’s activities towards oil exploration, given the state’s frontier status as conferred by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.”
In response, the Chief of Naval Staff stated that, while he inherited the project from his predecessor, he welcomed it when he took office because of its significance and value.
Vice Admiral Ogalla thanked the governor for his gesture and promised that construction would begin immediately, as planned in the 2024 budget.
