Felix Abugu Appointed Secretary Of Anya Ndi Igbo

Anya Ndi Igbo, a non-partisan organisation dedicated to the interests of the Igbo people, has appointed Mr Felix Oguejiofor Abugu as its Secretary.

Mr Abugu, a veteran journalist, succeeds Barrister Emeka Nwadioke, who has held the position since Sir Okey Nwadinobi, the pioneer secretary, was elected Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide in January 2025.

According to a statement released by Mr Ikechukwu Amaechi, Chairman of the Media & Strategic Communications Committee, Anya Ndi Igbo, on Monday, October 28, 2025, Mr Abugu’s appointment is based on his professional achievements and in consideration of the current realities facing Ndigbo in Nigeria. The group, committed to the peace, security, and development of Ala-Igbo, as well as the peaceful co-existence between Ndigbo and other nationalities, welcomes Mr Abugu to the role.

A highly respected journalist, Mr. Abugu was previously the Editor of Saturday Guardian and the pioneer Features Editor of ThisDay newspapers. He also served as the pioneer Managing Editor of New Telegraph and later as the newspaper’s Deputy Managing Director/Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Furthermore, he was the founding Editor/Managing Editor of The Oracle Today, an Onitsha-based newspaper. A well-regarded columnist and frequent commentator on public affairs, Mr. Abugu is currently the Co-publisher/Editor-in-Chief of AbeyaNews, an online news platform.

Mr. Abugu is a former member of the Federal Government Publicity Committee on Capital Relocation and a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), the South East Editors Platform (SEEPLAT). He also sits on the Board of IKORO COLLECTIVE, an association of Senior Igbo Journalists and Media Influencers focused on public policy and its impact on the Igbo.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Abugu is a respected community leader who plays a significant role in his native Umuida community, where he serves as Secretary to the Committee on Reform of Umuida Town Union, Enugu-Ezike, as well as in Igbo-Eze North LGA, Enugu State.

Born on December 26, 1962, in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State, Mr. Abugu holds a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu; a post-graduate diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; a post-graduate diploma in Community Relations from the Pan Atlantic University, Lagos.

He is currently pursuing a Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Media and Communications (specialising in Media Enterprise) at the Pan Atlantic University, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

On behalf of Ndigbo, the leadership of Anya Ndi Igbo welcomed Mr. Abugu and expressed their best wishes for a successful tenure.

They also extended their appreciation to Sir Nwadinobi for his outstanding work as the pioneer Secretary in establishing and guiding the association, and to Barrister Nwadioke for his capable leadership during the search for a permanent secretary.
