Onitsha Printing Paper Dealers Endorse Soludo For Second Term
By Uzo Ugwunze
Onitsha market fire victims, under the aegis of the Onitsha Printing Paper Dealers Association, Woliwo Market, Onitsha, Anambra State, have vowed to vote for Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the November 8, 2025, governorship election, citing his numerous achievements in the state.
These fire victims, who lost most of their wares and shops during a fire outbreak in their market some time ago, disclosed that the governor has positively impacted various aspects of the economy, including education, road rehabilitation, market improvements, employment, and the restoration of security, among others.
Speaking to the newsmen, the market chairman, Mr. Izuchukwu Valentine Ifegbo, explained that these achievements demonstrate the governor’s commitment to the welfare of his people. He urged the populace to re-elect him for a second term.
“The governor isn’t afraid to do what he believes is best for his people. Don’t be deceived by those who will be spreading money around to buy your conscience on election day. Vote for Soludo; a familiar face is better than an unknown one.”
“I commend the governor for the individuals he has appointed to manage market affairs, including the President of the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders’ Association (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna, the Special Adviser to Soludo on Trade and Markets (SPAD), Hon. Evarist Uba, and other market leaders.”
“My prayer is that ASMATA and the government unite to address the needs of our market. We lack essential facilities such as water for our toilets and a solar system for electricity. We also request that the levies we pay be reviewed.”
“Let the local and state government levies be standardized to avoid multiple payments, as this causes hardship. Since the fire outbreak in our market, some people have been forcibly evicted.”
“For those who have lost everything, it’s like starting life anew. That’s why we implore Governor Soludo and other kind-hearted individuals to come to our financial rescue.”
“Our members should be encouraged to return to the market. There are empty shops available, and some still own shops here. Because they have left and are now operating along Okwei and New Market Road, we find it difficult to collect our stallage levies for the government.”
“Another problem we are facing in the market is the issue of contractors claiming ownership. My plea is for government intervention in all these issues to enable us to progress,” he pleaded.
In his contribution, the financial secretary, Sir Martins Ihekeme, said that they would continue to support Soludo because of his achievements, recalling that before Soludo’s administration, there were no roads connecting New Market Road to Onitsha Main Market.
“The governor also restored security in the state. Previously, everyone would rush home by 5 pm due to criminal activity, but now we can stay out until 10 pm without fear of any catastrophe. Soludo worked that magic,” he revealed.
