Eze Blasts APC Chieftain Over Comments On Atiku, Amaechi, Obi
Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has sharply criticised Ayekooto Akindele, a self-proclaimed chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for his recent disparaging remarks against prominent politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a press release issued Monday, Eze dismissed Akindele’s statements as “attention-seeking, utter rubbish, foolish, and a high display of market day ignorance,” accusing him of being a political opportunist motivated by monetary gain.
Akindele had asserted that President Bola Tinubu remains in a stronger political position than his potential 2027 challengers, comparing his record with that of Atiku, Amaechi, and Obi.
He argued that Atiku’s consistent electoral failures since 2007 demonstrate a lack of national acceptance, while Amaechi has not achieved electoral success since his split with current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Akindele also claimed that Obi has not won any significant election since the death of APGA leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Eze particularly took issue with Akindele’s insinuation that Amaechi has not won any election since his fallout with Wike.
“The insinuation by the so-called Akindele that Amaechi has not won any election since Wike left him is provocative and a gutter narrative to score cheap popularity,” Eze stated.
He countered that Wike, in fact, has not won any credible election since leaving Amaechi’s political camp, labeling him a “political thug chieftain” who relies on security agencies, INEC, and the judiciary to secure victories.
Eze further challenged Akindele’s understanding of Nigerian politics, reminding him that Amaechi served as the Director General of Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaigns in 2015 and 2019.
He also questioned the validity of the 2023 presidential election allegedly won by Tinubu, calling it “disgraceful” and an election “stolen” from others.
Addressing Akindele’s comments on Atiku and Obi, Eze argued that neither politician has participated in a truly free and fair election in Nigeria.
He stated that, given a sanitised INEC, security apparatus, and judiciary, both Atiku and Obi would defeat Tinubu’s type of candidate.
Eze urged Akindele and others to show respect for high-ranking politicians like Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi, emphasising that their lack of presidential victories does not diminish their significance in Nigerian politics.
He warned against using their names to score “cheap political goals.”
