NDDC Boss Urges Niger Delta Youths To Embrace Modern Technology

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has encouraged youths in the Niger Delta region to leverage modern technology to foster collaborations and partnerships that will boost their human capacity development.

According to Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs, Dr.Ogbuku made this statement at the 2025 International Youth Day celebration, organised by the NDDC in collaboration with the Ganvic Empowerment Initiative in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State.

He explained that the program focused on collaboration and partnership for youth development. “We are in the age of technology, and AI is becoming increasingly prevalent.

“Therefore, we are using this platform to encourage the youth to leverage this current trend to advance their development, enabling them to benefit from current innovative ideas and the latest technologies.

“This ensures they are not left behind, as part of the commission’s commitment to promoting the capacities of youths in the Niger Delta region.”

Dr. Ogbuku noted that the ongoing comprehensive youth empowerment program in the region is further strengthened with meaningful support from state governments, recognising that the NDDC, as an interventionist agency, cannot achieve this alone.

He stated, “We have always liaised with state governments in carrying out such programs, requesting them to nominate and provide us with the categories of people in their areas of interest, such as people living with disabilities, as beneficiaries.”

Dr. Ogbuku urged youths to be hardworking and proactive in their respective endeavours.

Mrs. Ahunna Imoni, the NDDC Director of the Women and Culture Unit of the Youths Directorate, said that the International Youth Day, a global celebration of youth creativity and potential, demonstrates the current board’s renewed commitment to youth advancement.

She encouraged the youths to develop their skills in various ways to meet the demands of the present day.

Mr. Aniekeme Finbarr, a resource person for the program, praised the NDDC for its initiative in sponsoring the event, calling it an eye-opener that would assist in transforming youths in the region.
