The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a categorical denial of its alleged involvement in a skill acquisition programme allegedly run by the Victorious Prayer Network in Bayelsa and Rivers States.

According to a press release issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the NDDC categorically denied promising to sponsor over 2,000 trainees or provide starter packs for the alleged program.

The denial comes in response to media reports that the NDDC failed to keep its promises to trainees involved in the alleged scheme.

“We would like to clarify that the NDDC did not approve of any such training programme,” Thompson-Wakama stated. “Whatever training was organised under suspicious circumstances lacked the Commission’s blessing and approval.

The individuals behind these allegations against the NDDC were never hired by the Commission to conduct skills training.”

The NDDC insists that all of its programs are transparent and widely advertised.

Thompson-Wakama announced the recent launch of a comprehensive technical skills acquisition program in Port Harcourt, emphasising that it aims to provide participants with practical, in-demand skills.

The Commission advises youths to exercise caution when dealing with people claiming to be on behalf of the NDDC.

“It is disturbing that some mischievous individuals are attempting to exploit our youths, who are genuinely eager to be gainfully engaged in legitimate activities,” the statement read.

The NDDC reiterates its commitment to transparency and fairness in all of its activities, including youth empowerment and skill-building programs.

In light of the recent allegations, the Commission warns youths to be wary of people seeking undeserved financial gain.

All enquiries about the NDDC’s youth empowerment programs should be directed through official communication channels.

The statement also encourages beneficiaries to check information on the NDDC’s official website [www.nddc.gov.ng] and social media accounts to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.

The NDDC hopes that this clarification will prevent future exploitation and maintain public trust in its genuine initiatives.
