Asagba Of Asaba Commends NDDC Over Achievements
The Asagba of Asaba, Obi Epiphany Azinge, has praised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its accomplishments over the last 25 years.
Obi Azinge spoke as the Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, led a delegation of the Commission’s Board and Management to pay him a courtesy visit at his palace in Asaba, Delta State.
According to Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs, the NDDC delegation consisted of Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Executive Director of Finance and Administration Alabo Boma Iyaye, Executive Director of Corporate Services Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, and other Commission Directors.
The royal father praised the NDDC for its efforts in various sectors of the Niger Delta region. He was pleased with the foreign postgraduate scholarship program, which had helped many Niger Delta youths advance their education.
He also recognised the contributions of the NDDC Chairman, who he claimed had served the Delta State Government in various capacities. He remarked that Ebie performed admirably as Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education and later as Secretary to the State Government.
Obi Azinge urged the NDDC to expand its intervention to some critical areas in Asaba, noting that the town had been dealing with floods for many years.
He also asked the NDDC to help with the construction of projects that would benefit the people in his area.
The monarch thanked the NDDC for choosing Asaba as the location for some of its 25th anniversary celebrations, including a press conference and a movie premiere.
Earlier, NDDC Chairman Mr. Chiedu Ebie congratulated the Asagba on his coronation as Asagba of Asaba. He expressed confidence that his reign would bring good fortune to Asaba, which serves as both a kingdom and the capital of Delta State.
He claimed that the NDDC had matured and was now a big brother to the new development agencies in Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
Ebie stated that as part of the silver jubilee celebrations, the Commission was touring the nine Niger Delta states. “We are in Asaba for a World Press Conference and movie premiere because it is quickly becoming Nigeria’s Nollywood capital.”
