Brother’s Plea: Charly Boy Champions Campaign To Save Beloved Actor Tom Njemanje
In a powerful display of compassion and solidarity, iconic artist and activist Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, is spearheading a national campaign to support Nollywood actor Tom Njemanje, who is currently battling prostate complications and requires immediate surgery.
Charly Boy, through his Charly Boy Foundation, a beacon of hope for vulnerable Nigerian men and an outspoken advocate for prostate health awareness, is using his own personal experience to rally support for Njemanje.
Oputa, who has had two prostate surgeries, is acutely aware of the physical and emotional toll the condition takes.
“I understand the pain. I understand the fear,” Charly Boy said in a heartfelt statement. “Tom is going through that right now, and we cannot let him walk alone.”
Charly Boy is leading a fundraising campaign, appealing to Nigerians’ collective generosity to help Njemanje obtain the life-saving surgery he requires.
He believes that if 10,000 men contribute N1,000 each, they will be able to provide Njemanje with not only the necessary medical care, but also a chance at a dignified recovery.
Charly Boy has personally donated N100,000 to launch the campaign. “I am inviting all my friends, fellow entertainers, community leaders, and every Nigerian with a heart to join me,” he said. “Let us keep Tom alive.”
The Charly Boy Foundation’s ongoing Men’s Health Awareness Drive has been instrumental in dispelling myths about prostate health and encouraging early detection and treatment.
Their initiatives include mobile screening outreach in underserved communities, public awareness campaigns, and collaborations with labs to increase testing accessibility.
The foundation recently launched a grassroots initiative to work with local community groups to organise men’s gatherings featuring free prostate tests and educational resources.
“We are in the midst of a silent epidemic,” Oputa stated. “Too many of our men are dying in silence because they do not discuss their health. That is why we established this foundation—not to talk, but to act.”
Tom Njemanje, a well-known and cherished figure in Nollywood, has brought joy and entertainment to countless viewers. Now it is our turn to give back and help him in his time of need.
This campaign is about more than just helping one man; it is a demonstration of brotherhood, a commitment to saving lives, and a promise to ensure that no Nigerian man faces such challenges alone. Let us answer Charly Boy’s call and stand with Tom Njemanje.
