Zulum Unveils New Health Boards, Orders Overhaul Of Borno’s Healthcare System
Maiduguri – Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has initiated a major restructuring of the state’s healthcare system with the inauguration of three key health sector boards and a directive for a comprehensive overhaul of service delivery.
The inauguration, which took place Thursday at the Government House Council Chamber in Maiduguri, saw the establishment of the Borno State Hospital Management Board, the Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Board, and the Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital Management Board.
These boards are charged with the responsibility of implementing initiatives aimed at significantly improving healthcare access and quality across the state.
Governor Zulum, addressing the newly appointed board members, highlighted the critical need for reform, citing inadequate facilities, insufficient staffing, and a shortage of essential medical supplies as major challenges hindering effective healthcare delivery.
He emphasised the interconnectedness of the healthcare system, stating, “We are currently witnessing pressure on our secondary health facilities because primary healthcare is weak.
“I want you to take all hospitals on a case basis and enumerate all problems in terms of staffing, equipment, and medical supplies so that we can address the issues affecting our health facilities holistically.”
The Governor’s commitment to reform extends beyond the health sector. He also inaugurated the Borno State Local Government Service Commission Board, comprising a chairman and four permanent commissioners.
In response to their appointments, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, Chairman of the Kashim Ibrahim Teaching Hospital Management Board, and Alhaji Modu Musa, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission Board, expressed their gratitude to Governor Zulum and pledged their unwavering commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to them.
They vowed to work diligently to justify the governor’s confidence. The inauguration marks a significant step towards Governor Zulum’s ambitious plan to revitalize Borno State’s healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.
