BAT Nigeria Honoured For Export Excellence By NEPC

Lagos, Nigeria – BAT Nigeria has been recognised as a leading non-oil exporter at a prestigious event hosted by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).

The award, presented at a gathering of prominent figures in the export sector, highlights BAT Nigeria’s significant contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth and diversification.

The event, which saw the attendance of  Minister of Trade and Investment Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, NEPC Executive Director and CEO Mrs Nonye Ayeni, and SON Director-General Mr Ifeanyi Okeke, provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss challenges and solutions for the non-oil export sector.

BAT Nigeria has invested over $185 million in its manufacturing plant in Ibadan, Oyo State, producing goods for export to 13 West African countries, including the USA.

The company generates approximately $110 million annually in foreign exchange through exports, playing a crucial role in Nigeria’s balance of trade.

Odiri Erewa-Meggison, FCIS, External Affairs Director, BAT West and Central Africa, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stressing the importance of collaboration between exporters and regulatory bodies.

She highlighted the need for enhanced government support, especially regarding Export Expansion Grants (EEGs), which act as vital incentives for exporters to remain competitive globally.

However, Erewa-Meggison pointed out the pressing issue of outstanding EEG payments, with 39 exporters awaiting over ₦60 billion. She emphasized the need to resolve this backlog to ensure the sustainability of export activities.

The event served as a platform for stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to fostering a thriving export ecosystem in Nigeria.

The shared goal is to create a mutually beneficial relationship between the government and non-oil exporters, ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s long-term economic prosperity.
