Peter Obi’s ‘Overpayment’ Sparks Transparency Talk And ₦10 Million Donation
In a heartwarming turn of events, Presidential candidate Peter Obi’s generosity has sparked a conversation about integrity and accountability, after he accidentally overpaid several medical institutions.
During a visit to Our Lady of Lourdes College of Nursing Sciences in Ihiala, Obi was informed by Rev. Fr. Obiora Ugochukwu, CEO of the hospital, that the school had received ₦2.5 million more than their share of the ₦20 million Obi had pledged to 16 medical institutions.
Fr. Ugochukwu initially thought it was an isolated mistake, but after hearing similar reports from other institutions, he reached out to Obi.
The presidential hopeful, impressed by the honesty shown, confirmed the error and praised the institutions for their integrity.
In a gesture that further underscored his commitment to transparency, Obi announced a ₦10 million donation to the institutions that had reported the overpayment.
During his visit, he also made a further ₦10 million donation to the College of Nursing Sciences, recognizing their commendable work and positive outcomes.
Obi emphasised the importance of transparency in both the public and private sectors, urging everyone to emulate the actions of the institutions that reported the overpayment.
He also addressed the students, encouraging them to pursue their ambitions with dedication, reminding them that the world will always need healthcare professionals.
His visit highlighted the impact of his ongoing support, evidenced by the new administrative building partly funded by his previous donations.
He urged the government to recognize education as an investment, not a waste, and to prioritize funding for schools.
This story serves as a reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency, even in the face of good intentions.
Obi’s actions have not only demonstrated his commitment to these values, but also inspired a valuable conversation about accountability and ethical conduct.
