PWDs Initiative Empower Members, Educate Them On Self-Reliance
The Oyo State government has organised a capacity-building programme for persons with disabilities (PWDs) as part of their efforts to alleviate poverty in the state.
The programme aimed at creating a brighter future and raising hope for people with disabilities in Oyo State was coordinated by the Governor’s Executive Assistant on People with Disabilities, Mr Femi Timothy, to inform PWDs about the Governor’s giant strides over the last five years, particularly in Omituntun 2:0.
According to him, Governor Seyi Makinde has established the Agency for People with Disabilities to prioritise the welfare of PWDs.
According to Mr Timothy, the state government has taken bold steps to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Omituntun 2:0, resulting in greater dividends of democracy.
“I would like to thank state Governor Makinde for his unwavering support for people with disabilities in Oyo State. PWDs in the state are fortunate to have a passionate person at the helm of affairs, resulting in progress for their well-being.”
“I urge everyone to continue to support Governor Makinde’s people-oriented projects that aim to boost hope for people with disabilities,” Timothy said.
Ayodele Adekambi, Director-General of the Agency for People with Disabilities, praised Mr. Timothy Olufemi for organising an appropriate programme to commemorate their one-year appointment by Governor Makinde.
He stated that the government will soon announce the names of people with disabilities who will serve as Special Assistants and Supervisory Councillors in the state’s local government councils.
In their remarks, the Chairman of the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr Femi Awakan, Special Assistant to the Osun State Governor on PWDs, Comrade Olanrewaju Oladosu, and Special Assistant to the Oyo Governor on Interfaith, Reverend Femi Ibukunle, urged the PWDs to believe in their ability to turn things around for the better.
Retired CP Sunday Odukoya, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, urged people with disabilities (PWDs) to prioritise security in their communities and promote positive change.
In a lecture titled Unlocking Economic Opportunities for People with Disabilities, Mr Gbenga Ogunbola stated that people with disabilities (PWDs) must discover and use their talents to advance economically.
To create a better future for people with disabilities, they must remain focused on their vision and mission. This will help them succeed in their businesses and become employers rather than job seekers.
He charged people with disabilities to market their products and services using technology and social media platforms.
The programme provided financial assistance to 50 PWD beneficiaries to help them expand their businesses.
Some participants also praised the Governor and Mr. Olufemi Timothy for the initiative, stating that the programme has truly opened their eyes to a better future.
The event was attended by Paralympics Gold Medalist Yakubu Adesokan (MON), Chairman of JONAPWD, the Blind Association, Physical, Albino, Intellectual, Mental, and other stakeholders
