Speaking during an Eid-el-Fitr visit led by Vice President Kashim Shettima at his Lagos residence, President Tinubu pledged to utilise international partnerships to strengthen Nigeria’s security infrastructure with modern equipment, intelligence, and training.

“The next phase of our efforts centres on the challenge of insecurity, and I am doing everything I can to ensure we collectively overcome the forces threatening our stability,” the President stated, emphasising that insecurity is a significant obstacle to national development and prosperity.

Tinubu revealed productive discussions held with leaders in the United Kingdom and France regarding security cooperation. He specifically mentioned a “lengthy discussion” with French President Emmanuel Macron, who expressed a willingness to collaborate on equipment and support for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations.

The President also indicated plans to leverage existing diplomatic ties and access credit facilities to further bolster the nation’s security capabilities.

Beyond military resources, Tinubu urged governors to prioritise the welfare of vulnerable people within their states, acknowledging current efforts while encouraging further improvements to social welfare systems.

The President also cautioned about the potential economic repercussions of escalating global tensions, particularly in the Middle East. He warned that the crisis could worsen inflationary pressures and reduce the purchasing power of Nigerians, assuring them that the Federal Government will continue dialogue with trade unions and stakeholders to mitigate these impacts.
