The Save Nigeria Group USA has issued a blistering condemnation of the Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government’s reported military airstrikes in the Republic of Benin, labeling the action as “reckless aggression” and a stark example of the administration’s “misplaced priorities.”

The group asserts that the government’s justification for the strikes – preventing a military coup under the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance – is a “thinly veiled excuse.”

In a strongly worded press release, Save Nigeria Group USA highlighted the deployment of Nigerian Air Force assets across international borders without public debate, legislative authorisation, or the consent of the Nigerian people.

This action, the group argues, stands in stark contrast to the government’s alleged rejection of U.S. assistance for targeted strikes against extremist groups like Boko Haram and Islamist Fulani militias that are reportedly terrorising Nigerian citizens.

“The claim of sovereignty rings hollow when the government freely bombs a foreign country while leaving its own people vulnerable,” the release stated.

The Save Nigeria Group USA painted a grim picture of the internal security situation within Nigeria, detailing what it describes as an “ongoing full-scale genocide.”

The organisation cited over 100,000 deaths since 2009, with an estimated 7,000 killed between January and August 2025 alone.

Furthermore, they estimate that 11 million Nigerians have been displaced from their homes due to extremist militias and terror groups, leading to the destruction of entire communities, churches, and villages.

“A president must first remove the log from his own eye before acting as a self-styled regional policeman,” the group declared.

“Nigerian lives must come first. National security should come first. Protect Nigeria before playing regional hero.”

The press release further questioned the administration’s willingness to protect its own citizens, contrasting its reported lethargy in confronting terror at home with its sudden availability of resources for foreign intervention.

“The same administration that refuses to bomb known terrorist camps within Nigeria, abandoning Christians, farmers, and villages to slaughter, suddenly finds jets, fuel, and political will to bomb Benin Republic,” the statement read. “This exposes a deeply troubling pattern of neglect, complicity, and hypocrisy.”

Save Nigeria Group USA also expressed grave concern for the approximately 350,000 displaced Nigerians currently residing in IDP camps in Benin Republic, questioning who will protect them should retaliatory violence erupt.

They drew a parallel to a past incident where, they claim, the current Tinubu government refused to dispatch aircraft to rescue former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan during a diplomatic crisis.

The group issued a clear set of demands: “Evacuation flights. Safe return. Priority protection. International law and human decency demand it.”

Save Nigeria Group USA reiterated its stance that the airstrikes represent “misplaced priority, reckless militarism, and dangerous escalation.”

They warned that the aggression “will fuel further instability, hatred, and violence on both sides of the border,” and urged responsible governments, institutions, and civil-society actors to “stand for truth, justice, and human dignity.”
