The Body Shop Expands Footprint in Nigeria With First Lagos Store, Boosting Local Employment
The Body Shop has made a significant expansion into Nigeria by opening its first store in Lagos, following a successful launch in Abuja earlier this year and the establishment of a national e-commerce platform.
The new location at Ikeja City Mall is part of the brand’s commitment to the West African market as it continues to grow globally.
This new store not only introduces a wide array of Body Shop products, including popular and newly launched collections like Spa of the World, but also creates over 20 employment opportunities within the community.
The store’s design and customer experience are centred around a welcoming environment, featuring a signature dark green facade and an expert in-store team ready to assist customers with their skincare needs and provide relaxing treatments.
During the launch event, British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Jonny Baxter, highlighted the significance of The Body Shop’s arrival, linking it to the strengthening trade relationship between the UK and Nigeria.
He emphasised the growing bilateral trade, which currently stands at £7.9 billion, and the prominence of Nigeria as the UK’s second-largest trading partner in Africa.
Mike Jatania, CEO & Executive Chairman of The Body Shop, stated that entering the Lagos market is a crucial step in the brand’s global growth strategy, aiming to engage with a new generation of consumers who value ethical beauty.
Shalom Ijeoma Lloyd MBE, the General Manager of The Body Shop Nigeria, echoed this sentiment, focusing on deepening trade ties and showcasing the potential of values-driven business in a vibrant city like Lagos.
The Body Shop has a long-standing relationship with Africa, rooted in its founding by Dame Anita Roddick, who established connections that continue to influence the brand today.
The company collaborates with Community Fair Trade suppliers to source high-quality ingredients like tea tree oil, shea butter, and moringa seed oil, supporting sustainable practices and empowering local communities in Africa.
Founded in 1976, The Body Shop is renowned for pioneering ethical beauty and providing innovative products made from natural and fair-trade ingredients worldwide.
