UNIZIK Student Claims Self-Defense After Viral Assault On Lecturer
Awka, Anambra State – A viral video of a female student physically assaulting a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has sparked outrage and a heated debate on social media platforms.
Miss Chimamaka Precious Goddy-Mbakwe, a third-year History and International Studies student, is seen on video slapping, biting, and tearing Dr. Chukwudi Okoye’s clothes, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies.
Goddy-Mbakwe, on the other hand, has approached X to give her side of the story, claiming self-defence.
She claims the altercation began when Dr. Okoye pushed her while she was filming a video with a friend near her lecture hall. She claims that she did not recognise him as a lecturer at the time.
According to her statement, the situation worsened when Dr. Okoye allegedly grabbed her phone, causing it to fall and break.
She claims that the lecturer then grabbed her chest and made inappropriate comments.
“He grabbed my breasts and said unspeakable things,” Goddy-Mbakwe wrote. “In my attempt to free myself, his clothes were ripped.” I bit his hand and hoped he would let go.”
She claims that her actions were in response to what she perceived as a physical and verbal assault.
She claims she did not intend to harm Dr. Okoye and that her threat, “Sir, I will hold you ohh!” was an expression of desperation rather than a premeditated threat.
Following the physical altercation, Theatre Arts students allegedly approached Goddy-Mbakwe with weapons before security intervened.
The university management has pledged a thorough investigation into the matter. The incident has raised concerns about campus safety and the need for clear protocols to handle such situations.
The video, which went viral on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, continues to spark heated debate and conflicting opinions online, with many questioning the student’s actions and others expressing sympathy for her alleged experiences.
The investigation will most likely determine the exact sequence of events and assign responsibility.
