Kemien Egbekun, a student on the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) scholarship scheme, graduated with a CGPA of 4.77 (first class degree) in Law from Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU), Agbara-Otor, Delta State.

Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, two other PAP-sponsored students, earned second-class upper-division grades in Law at the same MCIU. They all took part in the university’s sixth convocation ceremony on September 6, 2024.

Between 2016 and 2023, no fewer than 60 PAP-sponsored students received first-class degrees in a variety of competitive disciplines at various partnering universities, according to Head of Education Dr Charles Ariye.

The disciplines include electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, civil engineering, accounting, law, petroleum engineering, physics, international relations, chemistry, biochemistry, political science, medical laboratory science, microbiology, and industrial chemistry, among others.

Though the scorecard for 2024 is still awaited from the various institutions, Egbekun and her colleagues have added to the ever-increasing number of PAP scholarship scheme beneficiaries who have earned similar excellent grades in various courses of study at partnering institutions.

Meanwhile, Dr Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has expressed his delight at the outstanding academic performance of students sponsored by the Programme.

He spoke following the impressive academic achievements of Arogbo-Ijaw native Egbekun and others, according to a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Igoniko Oduma, on Wednesday.

Otuaro stated that his administration was encouraged by the high academic grades achieved by PAP scholarship students, who had become part of the program’s success stories in advancing human capital development in the Niger Delta.

He emphasised that their commendable academic achievements reflected the scholarship scheme’s well-intended educational goals and the PAP’s mandate for the region.

Otuaro congratulated the PAP graduates on achieving first- and second-class upper-division grades in their disciplines, saying they had made the Federal Government, the PAP Office, their communities, and the region proud.

He challenged current PAP scholarship students at the various partnering institutions to be inspired by their predecessors’ admirable grades and to continue on this commendable path.

The PAP boss attributed PAP scholarship graduates’ outstanding academic achievements to President Bola Tinubu’s strong support for the Office.

He emphasised that it is consistent with his Renewed Hope Agenda, which calls for long-term peace, stability, and regional development.

He thanked the president for his fatherly encouragement to the Office and willingness to do more out of genuine love for the Niger Delta people.

Otuaro stated that his administration was working to increase the number of scholarships available to deserving students.

He stated, “We are overjoyed with the outstanding academic results of the Presidential Amnesty Programme scholarship scheme students. Achieving such impressive grades as first- and second-class upper division is no easy feat.

“These accomplishments demonstrate that the PAP is effectively carrying out its mandate. We are delighted and encouraged by this development, and we are taking appropriate steps to strengthen our efforts to achieve more in educational and vocational initiatives.

“We must thank President Bola Tinubu for his strong support for the programme and his unwavering love for the people of the Niger Delta through his Renewed Hope Agenda.” He is committed to long-term regional peace, stability, and development. He should also be appreciated and encouraged.”
