This program, which coincides with the organization’s 30th anniversary, seeks to revitalise the local ecosystem, improve education, and empower local businesses. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become an essential component of modern business strategy, with corporations recognising their role in society beyond profit-making. Multimesh, a leading technology company based in Rivers State, Nigeria, is one such example of how CSR can be used. As Multimesh celebrates its 30th anniversary, it is worth looking into the impact of its CSR initiatives, particularly in the Rivers Communities, where it has been recognised as a beneficiary of significant societal change.

Multimesh’s journey began three decades ago, with a pledge to give back to the communities where it operates. Over the years, the company has invested in a variety of projects, such as education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and community empowerment. This dedication has earned it not only respect and admiration but also recognition as a responsible corporate citizen.

The transformation of the Rivers Communities demonstrates the power of corporate social responsibility. Multimesh’s initiatives have improved people’s living conditions while also instilling a sense of community and pride.
Multimesh has made significant investments in education, including school construction and renovation, scholarship programmes, and library equipment. This has resulted in better learning environments and greater access to quality education for many children in the Rivers State communities.
The company has also helped healthcare facilities by providing necessary medical equipment and training for healthcare workers. This has resulted in improved healthcare services and lower mortality rates in the communities.
Multimesh has helped to develop infrastructure such as roads, water facilities, and electricity supplies, which have improved the overall living conditions of communities. Multimesh’s CSR initiatives have also aimed to empower local communities by offering training and job opportunities. This has not only improved the economic situation of community members but has also fostered a sense of self-reliance and independence.
However, to commemorate three decades of doing business in the Rivers State community this month, the founder and CEO of Multimesh Group, Sir Godfrey Nnamdi Ohuabunwa, rolled out the drums to give back to the community that has given him so much.
Ohuabunwa, a Port Harcourt boy, also took the time to unveil high-quality classroom desks for the newly renovated Crowther Memorial Primary and Secondary Schools in Rumuobiakani, Port Harcourt.

The Multimesh CEO thanked the community and religious leaders before presenting the desks and chairs to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Evo, Rt. Rev. Innocent Ordu, for dedication in the presence of Rumuobiakani Town’s Paramount Ruler, Eze Samuel Nyeche Ejims.
This was followed by a community novelty match between Rumuobiakani and Rumuogba towns in Obiakpo Local Government Areas to commemorate Multimesh’s anniversary.

Ohuabunwa, a devout Anglican, explained that after his humble beginnings and the establishment of the Multimesh Group, which has grown into a large broadcasting, communications, and multimedia outfit, the Group had no choice but to give back to the communities to positively impact them.

Ohuabunwa also revealed that approximately 20 years ago, the company had to enroll over 50 students in its scholarship program. Some of the students who benefited from the programme are now graduates and doing well, while others are evaluated annually and offered scholarships based on their needs.

He explained that the company does not discriminate against any religion and that some Muslim and impoverished students are currently benefiting from some of the assistance initiatives.
Interestingly, Ohuabunwa confirmed that Multimesh is based on social enterprise because he believes in giving back to society. Furthermore, Multimesh owns over five FM radio stations in Abuja, Umuahia, Enugu, and Port Harcourt, as well as licenses in Bayelsa, Imo, and two other states.

The Group also employs over 500 people, with 400 of them being women, in a variety of businesses, including Gospell Digital, which manufactures electricity meters and decoders, among others.
On the selection of the communities, Ohuabunwa stated that the group decided to return to the community where he was born and raised to motivate the students, while also inviting other companies and individuals with businesses in the area to help raise the standard of education in the various communities.

As part of the 30th anniversary, Ohuabunwa, the Ugwu Aro of Arochukwu, will also be bestowed with the chieftaincy title of Eze Omenu’ OHA 1 of Rumuogba Kingdom by the King of Rumuogba Kingdom, Dr Temple N Ejekwu, the Eze Ogba Iji -Nu – Ede, the Paramount Ruler (Nyenwe -Eli of Rumuogba Kingdom) in Obioakpo Local Area of Rivers State. The programt ceremony is scheduled for this weekend at the Ezes Palace, Old Aba revitalizeogba, Port Harcourt.

The CEO of Multimesh Group has come abusinesses.ving previously served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA) and the Port Harcourt Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (PHCCIMA).

Ohuabunwa has held various positions including the responsibility as director of Neimeth Pharmaceuticals PLC and Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON), Chairman of the Set Top Box Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (STBMAN), Chairman of Diocesan Missions Board, member of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), International Association of Chiefs of Police (NACP), Nigerian Institute of Directors (IoD), international member of the National Geographic Society, and Board Member of the International Academy of Telecommunications.

Godfrey Ohuabunwa, a consummate entrepreneur, graduated from the University of Maiduguri with a Bachelor of Arts (BA.Hons) in English Language and a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Applied Theology, following his West African School Certificate from Enitonna High School in Port Harcourt. He studied television technology at the BBC Training School in Worcester, United Kingdom. And a Bachelor of Laws LLB (Hons) from Baze University Abuja.

A Fellow of the African Business School (FAB), a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Sales Management (FNISM) and an Alumnus of the “Harvard Business School, Boston (OPM37).
