Anambra Election: Hon. Ogene Urges Soludo, APGA To Cease Intimidation, Coercion Of Electorate
- Calls On Ogbaru Residents To Vote Their Conscience
By Chukwudi Ebele
Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, leader of the Anambra State caucus in the House of Representatives, has voiced concerns regarding allegations that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is coercing voters to support the incumbent in the upcoming governorship election. Ogene, representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, characterised this alleged behaviour as undemocratic and urged his constituents to vote according to their conscience, stressing that there should be no repercussions for choosing not to support a particular party.
The lawmaker emphasised that democracy hinges on the principle of free choice, and denying citizens this fundamental right undermines the entire democratic process. He made this statement in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
Hon. Ogene, also leader of the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives, further elaborated: “It is a misconception that those who do not support the current government will be excluded from development initiatives. When infrastructure such as roads, boreholes, or schools are constructed, it is illogical to assume that only supporters of the administration will benefit from them.
“In the case of Ogbaru, we have consistently been overlooked in the distribution of these so-called dividends of democracy. Yet, we are being subjected to blackmail, led to believe that unless we vote in a specific manner, we will continue to be deprived of government support, which is the inalienable right of every citizen.
“Therefore, I urge every resident of Ogbaru, and indeed Anambra State, to go out on Saturday, November 8, 2025, and fulfill the sacred obligation enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: vote for the candidate of your choice, without any fear of intimidation, coercion, or inducement.”
“The Ogbaru Federal Constituency has long suffered neglect by the state government, with its sole connecting road in a severely dilapidated condition. Despite the area generating substantial oil revenue, the lack of infrastructure has resulted in profound economic and social hardships, impacting farmers and businesses who struggle to transport goods to market,” Hon. Ogene stated.
