NSCDC, Army, Police Foil Attacks On Plateau Village
In a joint operation, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Commander General’s Special Intelligence Squad, alongside the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police, has successfully foiled repeated attacks against the inhabitants of Nteng village in the Deomak District of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Commandant Apollos Dandaura, Commander of the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, recounted the harrowing experiences of the communities and lamented the recent attacks against some areas in Qua’an Pan.
He stated, “In response to the marching order of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, established an intelligence-driven operational mechanism to prevent the incessant attacks against Nteng village.”
“Notably, the communities have been plagued by suspected bandits who disrupt peace and stability, attacking farmers by exploiting the mountainous, waterlogged, and swampy environment. The lack of access roads further hinders a prompt response from security operatives.”
“Regrettably, these attacks have resulted in loss of life, the malicious destruction of farm crops, damage to the Primary Health Care Hospital, and destruction of other buildings and property, leading to the displacement of over 4,000 farmers, some of whom are currently housed in a refugee camp at a primary school in Qua’an Pan.”
Commandant Dandaura further explained that the success of the rescue operation depended on the effective and coordinated efforts of the NSCDC and the Nigerian Army, who established a Joint Guard operation at Nteng village to restore the civilians’ confidence and ensure their safe return to their previously abandoned communities.
He added, “Let me emphasize that the synergy amongst the security agencies, who worked tirelessly to secure the situation in Nteng village, is highly commendable.
On behalf of the NSCDC Commandant General, the people are assured of their safety, especially communities like Doop, Keolakan, Jepmorop, and Gorom in Nteng village, where valuables were maliciously damaged and other items stolen.”
“We have conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the area to facilitate the deployment of the NSCDC Agro Rangers Squad.
“Their mandate includes providing security for farmers, fostering unity between herders and farmers by preventing the destruction of farm crops and the killing of cattle, and preventing further attacks or retaliatory actions against innocent citizens.”
