Hensard University, NYSC Host Literary Event, Showcasing Student Talent
Hensard University, in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Toru Orua, Sagbama, Bayelsa State, successfully concluded a literary event over the weekend.
The event focused on Transforming Education and Technology for Sustainable Economic Development in Bayelsa State.
Held in the Law Faculty Auditorium, the event aimed to cultivate intellectual engagement, develop public speaking skills, and provide a platform for students to demonstrate their literary abilities.
Coordinated by Hensard University’s Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Ibikunle Francis, alongside Dr. Ogechi Cooky-Ndukwe of the Communication Faculty and NYSC CDS President, Ms. Comfort Ayomide Aladetoyinbo, the event attracted enthusiastic participation from students across a range of disciplines.
The competition comprised three categories – Public Speaking, Debate, and Spoken Word – with students competing for first place. The results highlighted the wealth of talent within the university community.
The winners were announced as follows:
Public Speaking:
1st Place: Delight Ugah (Medicine & Surgery, Year 2) 2nd Place: Timini Treasure Ifiemi (Accounting, Year 2) 3rd Place: Rejoice Ebifiyebomini Obuma (Medicine & Surgery, Year 1)
Debate:
1st Place: Glory Vincent (Medicine & Surgery, Year 1) 2nd Place: Justina Bulouseigha (Nursing, Year 1) 3rd Place: Triumph Edino (Political Science & International Relations, Year 3) 4th Place: Angel Pere-ebi Anslem (Medicine & Surgery, Year 1)
Spoken Word:
1st Place: Peace Tamaraebi Tasibo (Film & Multimedia, Year 3) 2nd Place: Alexis Tarila Kemewengha (Medicine & Surgery, Year 1) 3rd Place: Victoria Idipiye Lawrence (Political Science & International Relations, Year 3) 4th Place: Christian Bestman M. (Cyber Security, Year 3)
Organisers expressed satisfaction with the event’s success, emphasising its contribution to fostering a vibrant intellectual culture within Hensard University and its potential to inspire future leaders.
The event also underscored the importance of integrating education and technology for sustainable economic growth in the region.
