Hensard University, FMoE, World Bank To Train, Empower Over 200 Youth In Pig Farming

In a significant initiative aimed at fostering employment and entrepreneurship among youth, Hensard University, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education (FMoE) and funded by the World Bank, is set to train over 200 young individuals in pig production.

The training is scheduled to commence on Monday, March 2, 2026, marking a pivotal step forward in the drive to enhance vocational skills and improve economic prospects for the youth in the Niger Delta region.

This training programme is part of the IDEAS-TVET (Innovation Development for Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills – Technical and Vocational Education and Training) project.

The training will take place on the Hensard University campus in Toru Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area, and in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, and it is designed to equip participants with essential skills in pig farming, thereby promoting self-sufficiency and job creation in local communities.

During the inauguration of the programme, Mrs. Ifeoma Major, the leader of the IDEAS-TVET delegation, emphasised the importance of taking this skill acquisition programme seriously.

She assured participants that those who complete the training will receive a comprehensive package aimed at helping them start and manage their own pig farms.

Prof. Ajuruchukwu Obi, a professor of agricultural economics and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Hensard University, also addressed the participants. Prof. Obi, who is the brain behind the development of the technical proposal, leads the initiative as Training Programme Manager (TPM).

He, along with his staff, promised to deliver high-quality training that would empower the youth for a successful future in agriculture.
