Nzebunachi Chukwuma, Team Lead of the Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Group (CEPTG), informed reporters that the exercise, which began on February 18, 2026, will cover 68 projects across the state’s three senatorial zones, with a total estimated cost of approximately N18.4 billion.

He explained that this initiative, which started in 2019, aims to promote good governance, transparency, and accountability through the effective implementation of government projects nationwide, aligning with the Commission’s preventive and enforcement mandates.

“This is an initiative by the Commission to monitor the execution of constituency projects by lawmakers and government agencies across the states.

“The programme is designed to eliminate opaqueness in projects awarded on behalf of lawmakers and ensure transparency in execution.

“It’s also to guarantee value for money spent, reduce secrecy, the diversion of funds, and other forms of corruption in project execution to a minimum, and ensure that end-users benefit from the services provided.

“In Anambra, we will be tracking 68 projects across the three senatorial zones and federal constituencies in the state. These projects include youth and women empowerment, road construction, borehole installation, school renovations, and supplies, among others.”

The team lead disclosed that this exercise, the eighth phase in the series, is expected to last for 10 days and is happening simultaneously in 26 states across the country.

“The projects are randomly selected by a steering committee so that the Commission is not seen as vindictive.

“The committee comprises members from the Federal Budget Office, the Accountant General of the Federation, staff of the commission, and partners from the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, who assess the projects to ensure that expenditures correspond with the work completed.”

Expressing satisfaction with the significant successes achieved over the years, Nzebunachi enumerated some accomplishments, such as recovering the value of unexecuted projects and funds that could be redirected towards more beneficial projects.

“Some lawmakers and contractors have been instructed to return to their project sites to complete remaining work, while those found guilty have been prosecuted,” he stated.

On challenges faced during the exercise, the Team Lead remarked, “Our major challenge is security, which is a prevalent concern in the region.

“There have been instances where we faced resistance from youths and supporters of politicians who hindered our access to project sites.

“However, we engage local leaders, including traditional rulers, in advance of our visits to help persuade residents that this exercise benefits them,” he added.
