Obi: US Designation Of Nigeria As CPC Result Of Leadership Failure, Mismanagement
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, has addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the United States’ designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
Obi stated that the current situation is a consequence of incompetent and uncommitted leadership, coupled with the imprudent deployment of available resources.
In a statement released Monday by Ibrahim Umar, Spokesman for the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Obi wrote on his X handle: “The recent pronouncement by the US government declaring Nigeria a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ (CPC) and indicating possible military action should be of grave concern to every well-meaning Nigerian.
“There is no doubt that Nigeria is experiencing an unprecedented level of insecurity, with the attendant carnage and shocking loss of lives and property.
“According to Amnesty International, over 10,000 people have been killed in Nigeria since May 2023. As I have repeatedly lamented, the unwarranted and unprovoked killings of Nigerians are most condemnable, and all efforts must be made to bring them to a stop.
“It is equally important to state that this terrible situation is largely avoidable with competent leadership and good governance.
” While the insecurity did not originate with the present government, the unfortunate reality is the lack of competence, commitment, prudent resource management, patriotism, and passion within the APC-led government and its leaders to effectively govern, galvanise, and lead Nigeria toward a nation where no one is unwarrantedly oppressed or killed, a nation where peace, truth, and justice reign!
“As democracies, Nigeria and the US have long been strategic partners committed to regional peace and security. That relationship should not falter.
“The present situation calls for constructive diplomatic and any other plausible engagement between both nations aimed at addressing the prevailing and disturbing security concerns.
” Both countries must work in concert and expeditiously towards this purpose.”
