NSCDC Rescues Chinese Expatriates In Gunfight With Kidnappers, Eight Dead
Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) rescued several Chinese expatriates from kidnappers in Okpella village, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, following a three-hour gunfight.
A statement released on Saturday by NSCDC spokesman Afolabi Babawale detailed the incident: “On September 5, 2025, a gang of armed kidnappers launched a fierce attack on NSCDC operatives attached to BUA Cement Company in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. The gun battle lasted for three hours.”
Babawale explained that the NSCDC operatives were deployed to provide security for the Chinese expatriates working at the company.
He stated, “Tragically, the convoy of NSCDC operatives and the Chinese expatriates was ambushed during a routine patrol.
“The attack resulted in the deaths of four NSCDC personnel, serious injuries to four others, one expatriate missing, and the rescue of four expatriates.”
Babawale emphasised, “The Corps reiterates its commitment to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure and unequivocally condemns this attack.”
Addressing the situation, NSCDC Commandant General Professor Ahmed Audi directed the Edo State Commandant and senior management to offer condolences to the families of the fallen operatives and arrange for their burial with full honours.
The NSCDC Boss emphasised that the operatives’ dedication, commitment, and patriotism would never be forgotten.
He also assured that the medical expenses of those receiving intensive care would be covered, and they would receive the best possible treatment to ensure a swift recovery.
Audi expressed his gratitude to the relevant security agencies for their collaboration with the NSCDC in thoroughly searching the forest where the kidnappers fled.
The goal is to rescue the abducted expatriate and promptly apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
He concluded, “The Corps categorically states that any embellished reports circulating should be disregarded. The CG is fully committed to the welfare, safety, and care of all officers and men.
“This incident will not deter the Corps from fulfilling its statutory mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.”
