K-Pop Fever Set To Hit Nigeria With New Contest From Korean Culture Centre
The Korean Culture Centre Nigeria (KCCN) has announced plans to launch a Korean Pop (K-pop) contest in June to strengthen cultural ties and promote artistic exchange between Nigeria and South Korea.
The initiative promises to give Nigerian youth a platform to showcase their talents, particularly in the thriving arts and entertainment industries.
According to Gwangmin Lee, the KCCN’s Public Relations and Press Officer, the contest will include both singing and dancing competitions and is intended to “enhance cultural understanding and collaboration by providing a platform for young creatives to engage with K-pop and share their interpretations of this vibrant genre.”
Lee made the announcement at the “Sac on Screen” event, a KCCN initiative that celebrates exceptional films with cultural significance.
He emphasised cinema as an effective tool for connecting with Nigerian audiences and promoting cross-cultural understanding.
“We have the potential to serve as a bridge between Korean and Nigerian cultures,” Lee explained.
“Our goal is to strengthen our partnership with Nigeria, and we are excited about the upcoming K-pop contest in June.”
The KCCN’s commitment to cultural exchange goes beyond the upcoming K-pop competition.
Jenifer Ezeonyeasi, Cultural Events and Communications Officer, explained the “Sac on Screen” initiative, which aims to connect Nigerians to the world of theatrical plays, performances, and musicals.
“We started this program last year, showing video content from the Seoul Arts Centre on a big screen,” Ezeonyeasi explained.
“Performances, musicals, and theatre allow us to connect cultures and strengthen diplomatic relations.”
The K-pop contest is expected to generate a lot of interest among young Nigerians who want to learn about Korean culture and show off their talents.
The KCCN will release additional information regarding registration and competition guidelines in the coming weeks.
The event promises to be a vibrant celebration of cultural exchange, providing a unique opportunity for young Nigerians to connect with the global phenomenon known as K-pop.
