NDDC Commissions New Road, Launches Another in Delta State, Boosting Niger Delta Development

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has completed and commissioned a 9.6-kilometer Abraka-Oben road in Delta State, marking a significant step in the Federal Government’s commitment to developing the region.

The commissioning ceremony, attended by Minister of Regional Development Engr. Abubakar Momoh, also saw the launch of the reconstruction of the Abraka-Agbor Road.

The Minister praised the NDDC Board and Management for their swift response to President Bola Tinubu’s directives to revitalize the Niger Delta.

He described the road projects as a testament to the Federal Government’s dedication to the region’s progress.

NDDC Chairman Mr. Chiedu Ebie echoed the Minister’s sentiments, highlighting the Abraka-Oben road commissioning as the first landmark project under the current administration in Delta State.

He expressed pride in the project’s contribution to transforming the Niger Delta into a zone of peace and development. Ebie, a Delta State indigene, specifically emphasized the positive impact on his constituents.

NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku reinforced the Commission’s commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating their determination to bring about positive change in the oil-producing region.

He attributed the successful completion of the project to the peace and cooperation currently prevailing in the NDDC and the region, thanking stakeholders and state governments for their collaborative efforts.

He emphasized the NDDC’s complementary role to state governments, not a competitive one.

The project brief, delivered by NDDC Executive Director of Projects Sir Victor Antai, detailed the extensive work undertaken, including replacing over 80,000m³ of unsuitable material on the previously dilapidated road.

The upgraded road, he noted, significantly improves connectivity between industrial and agricultural communities in Delta and Edo States, facilitating the transport of goods and services.

The improved infrastructure also addresses prior security concerns, as the old road was a notorious hotspot for kidnapping and armed robbery.

Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, Chairman of the House Committee on NDDC, congratulated the NDDC management for the positive impact on her constituency.

The traditional ruler of Oruarivie-Abraka Kingdom, King Akpomeyoma Majoroh, expressed profound gratitude for the road’s impact on the agricultural community, facilitating easier movement of people and produce and connecting them to their ancestral home and regional trade routes.

He highlighted the road’s importance as a vital link between Abraka and Benin.
