Buhari Offers Condolences, Promises Support In Flood-Ravaged Borno
Maiduguri, Borno State – Former President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday visited Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, to express his condolences to the people and government following the devastating floods that struck the state on September 10th.
The floods claimed numerous lives and caused widespread property damage, leaving a trail of destruction and despair in their wake.
During his visit, Buhari, who was out of the country when the floods occurred, expressed his shock and sorrow over the tragedy.
“When this disaster happened, having been governor in Borno during my military career, I could hardly imagine such disaster,” he said.
“I was out of the country, all I could do was to send people to come and sympathise with you.”
The former president also offered words of encouragement and pledged support to the state government in its ongoing relief efforts.
“We are here to offer our condolences and to stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this difficult time,” he stated.
Buhari’s visit followed an earlier gesture of support, with a high-powered delegation dispatched to Borno to commiserate with the government and a N20 million donation to the state relief fund.
The delegation was led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and included prominent figures such as Engr. Sulaiman Adamu, Sen. Hadi Sirika, Prof. Isa Pantami, Engr. Aliyu Mamman, Garba Shehu, Emeka Nwajiuba, and Musa Haro Danmadami.
Governor Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Garbai Elkanemi, expressed their gratitude to the former president for his visit and words of support.
The visit comes as the state government continues to grapple with the aftermath of the devastating floods.
Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing, with authorities working to assist the affected communities.
The former president’s visit is seen as a symbol of national solidarity with the people of Borno State during their time of need.
It is hoped that the visit will further galvanize support for the state government as it works towards rebuilding and restoring normalcy in the flood-affected areas.
