Jonathan Seeks More Investments In Digital Infrastructure, Innovative Technologies
Former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has advocated for increased investments in digital infrastructure and innovative teaching technologies to improve learning and the value of education in a technologically driven world.
The former President emphasised that the rapid pace of technological advancement necessitated a forward-thinking approach for graduates to successfully navigate both the opportunities and challenges it presents.
Jonathan made the remarks as Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda at the institution’s 13th graduation ceremony on Thursday in Kampala, where he also praised CUU for its commitment to being at the forefront of educational innovation.
He affirmed that CUU recognised technology’s transformative potential in education early on and committed to “harnessing it to provide students with an unparalleled learning experience.” This forward-thinking approach has made CUU a leader in technology-enabled learning.”
The Chancellor praised the new graduates’ hard work, dedication, and perseverance, which helped them overcome obstacles. He also charged them with making a difference in the world by Cavendish University’s mission of innovative social transformation.
Dr. Jonathan urged graduates to embrace lifelong learning, cultivate an innovative mindset, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, build strong networks, and commit to ethical and responsible leadership.
He stated: “The world is evolving at an unprecedented rate. To remain relevant and competitive, you must commit to continuous learning. Seek out new knowledge, acquire new skills, and stay curious. Lifelong learning is not just a necessity but a mindset that will keep you adaptable and innovative.”
The former President went on to say, “The future is uncertain, and change is the only constant.” Cultivate resilience to deal with setbacks and adaptability to thrive in changing environments. Your resilience will help you recover from failures and emerge stronger.
“As you achieve success, remember to lead with integrity and accountability.” Use your skills and influence to positively impact society. Ethical leadership is critical for creating a sustainable and just world.
Dr. Jonathan also encouraged them not to be afraid to take risks and try new things, emphasising that their ability to innovate will be critical in turning challenges into opportunities.
