OBITUARY
Soludo, Udenwa Mourn Iwuanyanwu
The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and the former governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Undenwa, have mourned the passing of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, describing him as a “distinguished statesman, notable patriot, and renowned businessman.”
The late President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the age of 82, following a brief illness.
In a condolence message signed by his Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo expressed profound sadness over the elder statesman’s death, describing it as a monumental loss not only to his immediate family and the Igbo nation, but to Nigeria as a whole.
The Governor went on to describe Chief Iwuanyanwu as “a personal mentor, a great supporter, and an influential figure whose life and wise counsel were a testament to exceptional leadership, patriotism, and steadfast dedication to the progress of the Igbo nation and Nigeria as a country.”
Soludo went on to say that Iwuanyanwu has made invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
“As the publisher of Champion Newspapers and owner of several other businesses, his entrepreneurial spirit and philanthropic endeavours have left an enduring legacy in our country,” he stated.
The Governor recalled and praised the significant contributions of Chief Iwuanyanwu as Chairman, Planning Committee of Ohanaeze, a strategic position Governor Soludo had previously occupied in Ohanaeze.
“Also, as the 11th President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, he provided exemplary leadership, fostering unity and championing Ndigbo interests while building bridges of peace across Nigeria,” Soludo stated.
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to Chief Iwuanyanwu’s bereaved family, friends, and associates, as well as the Ndigbo and the nation, praying that his soul rests in peace and that God grants the family the strength to bear this great loss.
While mourning the death of the President General of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, former Imo State Governor Chief Achike Udenwa described Iwianyanwu as a foremost figure.
According to his Media Adviser, Emeka Omeihe, the former governor received the news with sadness. Udenwa praised Iwuanyanwu’s sterling qualities, describing him as a man of great heart.
“Many people worked under him in politics and business, and he was a pillar of support for many governments at both the state and federal levels.” Udenwa described Iwuanyanwu as a strong supporter and champion of the Igbo cause, as well as a nationalist who left indelible marks on history.
He expressed sadness that death came at a time when his services were most needed, not only by Ndigbo but also by the country.
Udenwa expressed his condolences to the Iwuanyanwu family and Ohaneze Ndigbo on the sad loss, and prayed to the almighty God to give them the strength to bear it and the soul eternal rest in His bosom.
