Dickson Lauds NDC Progress As Party Ratifies Primary Results, Eyes Electronic Voting
By Our Political Correspondent—
Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed optimism about the party’s trajectory after its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, held on Wednesday in Abuja.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Dickson said the meeting brought together the party’s presidential candidate, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, members of the National Working Committee, state chairmen, leaders and stakeholders from across the country.
“The meeting provided an opportunity to review our progress as a party, assess the outcome of the recently concluded primaries, and agree on the next steps as we continue to build a strong national platform ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Dickson wrote.
He thanked Obi and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for their “commitment, leadership, and inspiring participation” throughout the processes, and also commended all governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly aspirants, party officials, and supporters who took part in the primaries, presidential affirmation, and NEC meeting.
NEC ratified and endorsed the outcome of the nationwide primary elections after reviewing reports from across the federation.
Dickson described the achievement as “remarkable” for a relatively young political party in such a short period.
While acknowledging that there were challenges and disagreements in some locations, the NEC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, fairness and inclusion.
The party resolved to intensify reconciliation, consultation and stakeholder engagement efforts across the country.
In a significant move, NEC approved plans to introduce electronic voting in future congresses and primary elections. “We believe that technology must play a central role in deepening transparency, participation, and confidence in democratic processes,” Dickson said. The party also directed the strengthening of its digital membership registration and data management systems.
The NEC further resolved to intensify grassroots mobilisation and membership expansion while strengthening party structures at ward, local government, state, zonal and national levels as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The committee also reviewed recent developments in the nation’s electoral environment, including aspects of the Electoral Act and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines. It reaffirmed the party’s commitment to pursuing democratic, legal and constitutional remedies where necessary “in defence of a level playing field, electoral justice, and democratic participation”.
Dickson said: “Overall, the meeting was marked by optimism, unity, and a shared determination to continue building a strong, credible, and nationally accepted political movement dedicated to good governance, national development, and democratic renewal. The best is still ahead of us.”
