NDC Pledges To Build A Party As An Institution, Not A Personality Cult

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has adopted a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening the party’s institutional framework, with a firm emphasis on party supremacy over individual ambitions.

A press statement signed by Osa Director, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, on 7 June 2026, outlined the key decisions taken at the second NEC meeting.

Among the resolutions, the party declared that all programmes, policies and appointments – with the exception of personal staff – of any government elected on the NDC ticket must be made in consultation with the party structure.

The statement stressed that “the party remains supreme” and that members were expected to align their personal interests with those of the party.

Affiliated groups and non‑governmental organisations must operate under the party’s guidance and control, and are prohibited from functioning independently or in parallel with the party structure.

A comprehensive Code of Conduct is to be established for all officials and candidates. A committee led by the National Legal Adviser has been constituted to develop the framework.

In a move to heal internal divisions, the NEC has inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee to reconcile all aggrieved members.

Perhaps the most striking resolution was the party’s clear rejection of personality‑driven politics. “The NDC is being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded,” the statement read.

Members were urged to remain committed to the party’s long‑term growth and sustainability “for generations to come”. The statement insisted that total allegiance must always be to the party and the national interest.

On financial probity, the NEC resolved to enforce strict accountability in the management of party resources. Party funds must be used strictly for party business, and candidates at all levels must fully disclose all funds they source or receive, including contributions made to campaign accounts.

Such funds must be channelled through dedicated party campaign accounts at local government, state, zonal and national levels, including presidential and governorship campaign accounts.
