LG Elections: Obi, 2 Others Emerge Victorious At APGA Stakeholders Screening In Idemili North

Chief Okechukwu Obi and two other contestants from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have emerged victorious from Tuesday’s APGA stakeholders screening exercise in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The screening exercise was held in preparation for the upcoming Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in the LGA.

Chief Okechukwu Obi, from Obosi community and CEO of Royal Paradise Hotel & Suites, Obosi, secured first place with 58 votes. Hon. Arthur Ifeanyi Chiekwu, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Idemili North State Constituency, and Arinze Anagu, both from Umuoji community, came in second and third with 47 and 7 votes, respectively.

The three candidates surpassed Kenneth Chike (3 votes), Francis Okeke, and Ukamaka Obi (1 vote each) to secure their victories.

With their win, the trio will now compete with the incumbent Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, in an upcoming primary election. APGA leadership, in conjunction with Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the APGA leader, will select the party’s candidate for the August council chairmanship polls.

The exercise took place at the Idemili North Local Government Council Hall in Ogidi and was attended by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Solo Chukwulobelu; the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor; and the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma and other stakeholders.

The incumbent Mayor of Idemili North, Nkwoka, congratulated the three candidates on their victory, describing the exercise as credible, transparent, free, and fair.

In his response, Chief Okechukwu Obi, the highest vote scorer, thanked the delegates for their confidence in him and urged them to prepare for the primary election.
