China-Nigeria Trade Volume Surpasses $22 Billion—Envoy

*10,000 Nigerians Have Enjoyed Training Programs in China So Far

China-Nigeria trade volume has surpassed $22 billion, according to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai.

Speaking at the 1st Annual China-Nigeria Government Exchange Program Alumni Reunion Gala in Abuja, Yu disclosed that over 10,000 Nigerians have benefited from the exchange opportunities provided by China.

Yu noted that the trade volume for 2025 has already surpassed that of the previous year, stating that China’s direct investment in Nigeria increased by 130%, while Nigeria’s exports grew by over 200%.

“I think this bilateral relationship not only has political significance, but it is also fundamentally about people-to-people relations. I am very happy to inform you that our trade volumes this year have already surpassed 22 billion U.S. dollars.

“This amount has exceeded last year’s total. Additionally, China’s direct investment in Nigeria has increased by 130%, and Nigeria’s exports have risen by over 200%.”

The envoy also stated that his country is working closely with Nigerian authorities to implement the zero-tariff policy announced in June 2025, aimed at expanding Nigeria’s exports to China while also enhancing Nigeria’s position in the international trading system.

“We are collaborating closely with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment to implement the zero-tariff policy announced by the Chinese government last June. This means that China will provide zero tariffs on 100% of products from all 53 African countries, including Nigeria.

“I believe this will expand Nigeria’s exports to China and contribute to enhancing Nigeria’s position in the international global trading system.”

He noted that China and Nigeria are working on various projects aimed at mutual benefits, reiterating his belief that the two countries are natural partners with shared interests.

He emphasized the need for both countries to collaborate in enhancing current global governance to ensure active representation for African nations and to amplify their voices on the global stage.

Yu remarked that “China’s today is Nigeria’s tomorrow,” highlighting the many similarities between the two countries.

Regarding the reunion event, Yu stated, “It aims to provide a platform for our alumni who attended the Chinese Government Exchange Program to stay connected, exchange ideas, and thus contribute to China-Nigeria relations.

“Indeed, over the years, China has provided over 10,000 opportunities in training programs for Nigerians.

He added that these training opportunities are designed to build capacities and share experiences on a variety of topics, including governance, poverty reduction, manufacturing, agriculture, public health, trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, food economy, and digital economy.

“I believe this not only enhances the capabilities of individuals but also contributes to Nigeria’s economic and social development.”

Yu stated that the alumni of the exchange program are spread across various cities in Nigeria, including Abuja, Lagos, Maiduguri, and Ibadan.
