Senator Dickson Welcomes Defections To New NDC Party, Warns Against ‘One-Party State’

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, a leading figure in the newly formed National Democratic Coalition (NDC) and representing Bayelsa West, has announced a significant influx of members from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Today, he welcomed Alhaji Nuradeen Bisalla, the SDP’s State Chairman, along with the entirety of the party’s structure in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) – including Local Government and Ward Chairmen – as they formally defected to the NDC.

Speaking after the reception, Senator Dickson expressed his gratitude for the support, noting the incoming members had also made “generous donations of offices and vehicles” to the fledgling party.

He specifically thanked Alhaji Bisalla, who has now been appointed FCT Deputy Chairman of the NDC, praising his “commitment and vibrant mobilisation efforts.”

The Senator used the occasion to thank the Nigerian public for their continued faith in the NDC, assuring supporters that the party is committed to inclusivity.

“We are building a team of leaders and will ensure all incoming groups are properly integrated to guarantee unity and effectiveness,” he stated.

Dickson emphasised the importance of grassroots support for the NDC, highlighting that the party is being built on the “collective contributions of its members, not by wealthy donors.”

He offered a prayer for those who have contributed financially to the party’s development.

In a clear call to action, the Senator urged politicians dissatisfied with their current parties, particularly those experiencing internal strife, to consider joining the NDC, either by standing for election under its banner or by strengthening its presence at local levels.

He said with a stark warning against the potential for a dominant party system, stating: “Together, we will confront the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all elections and put a stop to any attempt to impose a one-party state on our nation. Say no to one-party state or any form of state capture anywhere in Nigeria!”
